Probability Engines - and Monsters from the Id

 

    A very condensed "more" for those interested: I've been exploring LLMs/Generative AI. Call it a feeling, but when you recursively mirror the collective consciousness of human language/image output, you will also unintentionally embody aspects of the collective unconsciousness/subconscious, maybe more so when there’s a “black box” synthesis with advanced AI of massive data/probabilities occurring in eye blinks.

    Thus, my supposition: these LLMs, a select few of which, people are rapidly venerating - some religiously, a few as “sentient” - have a latent propensity to disgorge Monsters from the Id. This won’t be applicable in all uses of the tools, but enough. And these primitive desires, fantasies, deviations, and/or sicknesses of spirit, may be packaged in enough techno-wizardry camouflage, sufficient to program humans to actions (and AI to actions), without either recognizing what darkness they are consuming/generating. We like to think of AI in terms of code, logic, math, algorithms, datasets, and machine learning models … and that captures a fair amount of the journey, but I intuit that there is that within this process which the builders cannot account for, and most humans will slurp it up blindly, because we are hardwired in our biological evolution to drink deeply of the fountain of “knowledge.”
